Most, (actually all) successful businesses and entrepreneurs have systems in place. Having a system helps you identify what needs to be done and in what order.

Many people come online every day not knowing where to begin.

There is an “online” misconception (disconnect) of a “magic bullet” or “secret formula” where, through the magic of the internet, one can learn very little, do very little and expect to make millions, all on auto pilot.

While the “internet lifestyle ideal” is attainable I am not aware of any great success stories that did not start out with lots of learning, applying, and trial and error, as well as frustration and many extra hours invested to get to that point.

The effort and extra hours invested can be rewarded when you realize that every hour you spend learning and applying has the potential to pay back over and over. This is opposed to exchanging your time for an hourly wage where you are paid for each hour you work but will only be paid once.

Having said that, it should be noted that the rewards do come and the most successful are able to put systems in place that allow for more time freedom and flexible schedules. This only happens once one learns how to focus on doing what you (the entrepreneur) does best and outsourcing or sytemizing the rest.

The same traits that would make one successful offline apply online even more so.

The Black Ink Project (version 2.0)

Back in 2005, Jeremy Palmer launched a popular affiliate newsletter called Quit Your Day Job.

The newsletter went out weekly, but many readers wanted more. Subscribers started requesting that this great info be in the form of a guide or e-book so they could have a one-stop destination for learning.

Jeremy, being Jeremy, wanted to know if the methods he had used to succeed could be learned and applied by new affiliates.

So that summer he decided to do an apprenticeship with five new affiliates. During this time he had weekly training calls where he would teach them the ropes, evaluate their affiliate campaigns, help them set goals, and keep them motivated.

The apprenticeship lasted five weeks. At the end of the project 4 out of the 5 students were making a consistent profit. One year later 3 out of the 5 became Commission Junction Performers (earning $10,000/month).

He learned a lot from this little experiment…

First - he had proved that his methods could be learned and put into action by others. This was important because there are a many people who make money online, but few who can teach others how to do it.

Second - He started to understand what skills and characteristics were required for people to succeed.

Armed with this information he proceeded to write his first e-book - High Performance Affiliate Marketing. Using the same material from the apprenticeship he transferred it into a concise 150 page guide. It sold thousands of copies within the first few months.

In addition to the book, he launched a member support forum so that people could get additional help.

Within a few months some trends started to emerge… People who bought the book and were active in the forum were 10x more likely to succeed than those who simply read the book. This is because people asking questions and lending advice were actively doing what they had learned.

Of the 5,000+ people who paid $49.95 for the e-book, only a few hundred became active in the forum.

This is the same reason so many diets fail. It’s not that the diet doesn’t work, but people don’t stick to it. They either don’t follow it correctly, or quit when they don’t see instant results.
